Subtractive Process

Subtractive Approach

This assignment was very contrasting in the fact that we had to use complete opposite approaches to design the same amount of space. therefore I used this idea of distinct contrast when designing my space. The subtractive approach seemed to a heavier object, therefore I concentrated on taking solid voids out, in order to get extreme variations of light. Therefore in the final outcome I was able to get distinct spaces of light and dark.

These opposing elevations show the contrast between how light and dark from each side of the cube.

Project 1_additive element

Similar to the subtractive process, I strived to manipulate the space in a way that allowed for optimum light differential. I also wanted the the final object to appear light and airy in order to contradict the subtractive object. By doing this I overemphasized my underlying theme of contrast of space, and contrast of light.
